Be a Missionary Not a Mercenary

I've tried to write this blog entry 3 times and each time I get myself deeper and deeper into company to company relations and communications as it pertains to the missionary vs mercenary ideology. Each time gets more philosophical than the last so, I think with this last attempt, I'm going to keep things simple.

Code/+/Trust, in my opinion, is currently in their scale phase of company development where they're experiencing exponential growth and profitability. So much so they've been keen to pick up new, young, talent to keep up with demand.

We use Agile development up to a certain point with stand up meetings, 2 week sprints, and boards on Trello or Monday, but without SCRUM masters. The teams are flexible, diligent, and seem to have great communication.

It's very valuable to start off a development career with perspective at the forefront of what you're doing. To try and find passion in every project you work on so the end result is the best it can be. In this modern society it is so easy to become jaded doing whatever job you've taken on day in and day out but having this reminder makes it less likely. To remember your roots, remember why you started in the first place, and to form a kind of human connection with the product managers and owners. Because if no one is excited about what they're doing, how can you expect the market to be?
